Casualties of War…

Make love, Not war!

I used to think that war was only a battle fought with guns and bombs and fighter jets.

Boy, was I wrong.

I see wars fought everyday.
Wars between political parties.
Wars between racial lines.
Wars between spiritual boundaries…

Everyday I see another gun fired…
Everyday, another bomb dropped.

Regularly we circle in our fighter jets just waiting for the perfect time to strike…
Leaving in our wake casualties of war.

It’s easy to love those that look like you.
The creative dreamers.
The visionaries.
The God-loving, bible reading, missions-minded folks…

The ones that follow closely to your standards.
The ones that listen to your style of music, or like the same movies as you.
The ones that struggle the same way you do…

That’s easy.

What’s difficult…
Is seeing the differences and loving them anyway.

So many times, we are so quick to dismiss others…
So hasty in our quest for like-mindedness that we don’t even see the treasures around us.
We lose the value that others carry because they don’t abide by our same creed…

They don’t look like us…
Act like us…
Talk like us…

So, our natural response is to reject them;
To push them away…

To hate them.

But, hate is learned behavior.

If you pursue the same God I do then it’s likely that you believe that we were created in His image.
If you read the Bible then you probably know the scripture, “God is love”.
If we were created in His image and He is love…
Then…
We were not born to hate…
We were born to love…

We are living in a culture that makes it easy for us to hate…
It’s our right…
Our privilege…
Almost, our duty…
to hate.

We justify our actions with out-of-context scriptures and say we are doing it in the name of Jesus…

We treat others with disrespect and then claim that we are the victims…

We disown and abandon those who don’t look or act like us…

But, you know…
I guess I hate stuff too.

I hate that someone went to sleep hungry last night.
I hate that someone was abused today.
I hate that someone was refused service because they weren’t clean enough.
I hate that someone died without being told that they were loved.

and I hate…
That there’s so very little being done about it.

But it doesn’t have to be this way…
We were never called to hate, abuse, abandon or disrespect…

We were called to love.
We were commanded to love.
We were created to love.

We walk around with the God of love packed tightly inside our hearts and act like we have nothing to give… when, actually, we have the one thing that everyone is looking for!

Everyone needs Love…
And Love changes everyone.

The first part of the scripture mentioned above is:
“Whoever does not love, does not know God”…

We cannot claim to know the God of love if we ourselves do not love others around us…
There’s a lot more weight in that statement then we are allowing ourselves to believe.

But,
What would happen in this world if we took a stand to love others instead of reject them?
What would happen if we stopped being so casual with our war?

It’s time for us to show that we know God…

It’s time we show His goodness…
His mercy…
His grace…
and
His love…
